Our Team Winning Second Place at Global Huawei ICT Competition in China

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) proudly announces that its student team has secured second place in the Innovation Track of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Final, held in Shenzhen, China. Competing against over 40 teams from around the world, the UDST team represented Qatar on the global stage, making the nation proud through their groundbreaking project titled “Be My Sense.” The team consists of Mohamed Ali, Ahmed El Abed, Abdulrahman Jarah and their mentor, Dr. Wagdi Alrawagfeh, Assistant Dean, IT Student Affairs, at the College of Computing and Information Technology, UDST.

The project is an inclusive, AI-powered solution that empowers deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals through real-time translation, smart wearables, and digital assistance. The innovation aims to break down communication barriers and foster accessibility in spaces such as classrooms, meetings, and public events.

“This is a remarkable achievement and a moment of pride for our university and our beloved country, Qatar.” said Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST. He added: “Our students are not only pushing the boundaries of innovation but are also shaping a more inclusive world. Their success on the global stage reflects UDST’s mission to develop forward-thinking and future-ready graduates who drive social impact and technological advancement.”

The Huawei ICT Competition is one of the world’s largest and most competitive technology contests, celebrating its 10th edition this year. The 2024–2025 event attracted more than 210,000 students from over 80 countries, culminating in a highly selective Global Final where 179 teams from 48 countries competed in various tracks including Network, Cloud, Computing, and Innovation.

Huawei also celebrated the team's achievement. Mr. Alex Dai, EVP Huawei Gulf North commented: "We extend our congratulations to the UDST team for their remarkable achievement with their project, 'Be My Sense,' which reflects the core objectives of Huawei ICT Competition's Innovation track. It’s inspiring to witness young talent from Qatar excelling on the global stage.  Our goal is to foster digital inclusion and drive innovation to tackle real-world challenges. Through this competition, we emphasize learning and innovation by continuously refining our challenges. This victory showcases Qatar’s growing digital expertise and reinforces UDST’s role as a hub for talent development, innovation, and applied learning. The University continues to lead in producing technologically advanced graduates prepared to shape the future.
