Health and Wellness at UDST

UDST is proud to be awarded the FISU Healthy Campus Platinum Award, exemplifying the efforts by the University to provide high-quality wellness services, programming and facilities. UDST continues to strive to be a leader in wellness best practices in both the Gulf and MENA region through its commitment to a campus environment that promotes health and wellness programming and services to students, staff and the community. The University’s Campus Wellness Strategy defines a collective, shared responsibility by UDST staff and students to foster an inclusive, supportive and accessible community promoting health and well-being. Of note, enhancement of staff wellness offerings and supports is a significant priority of the Campus Wellness Strategy as UDST attempts to position itself as an “Employer of Choice” in the recruitment and retention of University employees. The strategy also focuses on awareness, governance and sustainability.

Sport and Wellness recognizes the importance of providing the University Community with diverse offerings and currently focuses on three targeted pillars of wellness; physical, nutrition and psychological domains. These efforts are greatly augmented by our numerous world-class sport and fitness facilities available to students and staff generally free of charge during our regular operating hours. Such offerings include our FITClub program, health campaign collaborations and best practice research. With regard to research, we continue to refine the best methodologies to address these three pillars in our efforts to identify most effective wellness interventions with students. This is particularly important as Sport and Wellness intends to target wellness interventions with a significant portion of the Fall 2023 first-semester class.

The Campus Wellness Strategy intends to broaden this focus to ensure all 8 Dimensions of Wellness are offered as each represents an integral element of a balanced approach to wellness and our team is dedicated to provide proven and innovative programming/services to address related needs of UDST students and staff. The Campus Wellness Strategy emphasizes that wellness is not the purview of just one department or unit, but rather is dependent on collaborations and partnerships and more importantly a sense of priority and ownership by all segments of the University Community, individual students and staff included. Sport and Wellness also serves as a lead coordination role in the Campus Wellness Strategy as it serves as its designated Secretariat.
