UDST Students Shine at WFF 2025 Flagship Event in Rome

In November 2025, students from the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) represented Qatar at the World Food Forum (WFF) 2025 Flagship Event held at FAO Headquarters in Rome. The delegation participated in high-level panels, youth assemblies, and the inaugural global exhibition “From Seeds to Foods,” which showcased innovations across the agrifood value chain, including climate-smart agriculture, hydroponics, aquaponics, precision farming, AI-driven solutions, and traditional food systems. UDST students actively contributed to discussions on youth-led initiatives, sustainable land management, and food security strategies, while engaging with FAO leadership and other global delegates. The event strengthened the students’ leadership, networking, and research skills and highlighted Qatar’s proactive role in sustainable agrifood systems. The delegation’s work demonstrates UDST’s commitment to empowering youth as agents of innovation, sustainability, and food security on the international stage.

Qatar MoM, UDST partner to support national food security goals

The Ministry of Municipality and the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen Qatar’s food security. The partnership focuses on training, capacity building, and scientific research in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries. It aligns with Qatar’s National Food Security Strategy 2030 and the Ministry’s Strategy 2024–2030. The MoU includes specialized training programs, applied research, knowledge exchange, field placements for students, and joint projects to enhance local agricultural production. This collaboration supports sustainable agricultural practices, innovation, and the development of skilled human resources to improve Qatar’s self-sufficiency and food security. 

Establishment of the World Food Forum National Chapter in Qatar under the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and the FAO-hosted World Food Forum (WFF), has launched the first WFF National Chapter in the Middle East. This milestone strengthens Qatar’s leadership in food security and sustainability, supporting Qatar National Vision 2030. 
The initiative engages youth, scientists, policymakers, and entrepreneurs in addressing challenges such as hunger, food security, climate change, and inequality. UDST’s participation in the WFF Flagship Event and appointment of Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari as Youth Chair highlight the University’s role in empowering young leaders to drive sustainable agrifood solutions.


Upcoming activities include the National Youth Symposium and the Arab Youth Competition in February 2025, focusing on water and food security under climate change. This effort reflects UDST’s commitment to preparing responsible graduates, strengthening Qatar’s global presence, and contributing to resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems.

International Conference on Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), through its Center of Excellence for Food Security and Sustainability, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Ministry of Municipality, hosted the International Conference on Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change (WFCC 2025). The event gathered international experts, policymakers, and youth innovators to tackle food security, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience in alignment with SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG 13: Climate Action. 
 

Key highlights included the launch of the World Food Forum Qatar Youth Chapter, youth-led projects on climate-resilient crops, waste-to-protein initiatives, and nutrient-rich livestock feed solutions, as well as workshops on IoT farming, machine learning for food security, and smart irrigation solutions. The conference reinforced Qatar’s leadership in developing water-efficient greenhouse systems, hydroponics, soil health preservation, and livestock sustainability (milk and meat production), all of which contribute to building resilient agrifood systems and advancing Zero Hunger goals. 

World Food Forum launches Qatar Youth Chapter: The first in the Near East and North Africa region

The World Food Forum (WFF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality’s Department of Food Security and the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), launched the WFF Qatar Youth Chapter, the first in the Near East and North Africa region. The launch took place during the International Conference on Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change (WFCC 2025), with high-level participation from government leaders, FAO, UDST, and youth representatives. 
The Chapter serves as a pioneering platform to empower youth leadership in advancing Qatar’s National Food Security Strategy 2030, focusing on resilient agrifood systems, sustainable agriculture, and climate adaptation. By leveraging UDST’s Center of Excellence for Food Security and Sustainability, the Chapter integrates academic expertise, research, and partnerships to support youth-led innovation and collaboration. 
Through symposiums, competitions, and policy engagement, the initiative fosters youth-driven solutions to food insecurity and climate change, inspiring the next generation to lead impactful change in Qatar and across the region.

Participating in Qatar’s 12th International Agricultural Exhibition: The Role of AI in Boosting Agricultural Efficiency

UDST proudly participated in the 12th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition, a key event dedicated to advancing sustainability, innovation, and economic growth in the agricultural sector. The exhibition served as a platform for industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to explore cutting-edge solutions that enhance productivity and environmental stewardship. As part of its involvement, UDST supported Mohamad Salah Amine’s participation, where he delivered a lecture titled “The Importance of AI in Enhancing Economic Efficiency in Farms.” Presented in Arabic, the session examined how artificial intelligence, including machine learning, data analytics, and automation, is transforming modern farming practices. Beyond the lecture, UDST’s presence at the exhibition promoted discussions on the role of technology in agriculture, highlighting its commitment to research driven solutions that promote sustainability and economic efficiency. Through active engagement with industry professionals and visitors, the university reaffirmed its role in driving innovation and supporting the future of agricultural development.

UDST distributes Iftar meals to workers on campus in collaboration with Qatar Charity

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), in collaboration with its Qatari Student Association and Qatar Charity, served 500 Iftar meals to campus workers across various divisions, including security, housekeeping, and maintenance. This initiative, organized during Ramadan, aimed to express gratitude and foster community spirit. Students enthusiastically packed and distributed meals, embodying the values of kindness and giving back. UDST President, Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, emphasized the importance of instilling philanthropy and solidarity in students, particularly during Ramadan, to prepare them for impactful societal contributions. Qatar Charity, a key partner, praised the collaboration, highlighting Iftar’s significance in promoting unity and compassion. The initiative also addressed the challenges shift workers face during Ramadan, reaffirming their valued role within the UDST community. This successful effort reflects UDST’s commitment to fostering empathy, service, and goodwill among its students, faculty, and staff, reinforcing the spirit of Ramadan and the importance of collective well-being.
