UDST Student Shines at Doha Climate Talks 2025

Proudly, our Environmental Health student, Dana Abu Gazar, represented the University of Doha for Science and Technology during a panel discussion at Doha Climate Talks 2025, held at Msheireb Museums and organized in collaboration with the German Embassy Doha and the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar. Dana participated in the “Youth Activism & Climate Action Partnerships” panel, where she highlighted the vital role of student-led initiatives in shaping environmental responsibility and influencing policy development. Drawing from her experience as a lead in UDST’s Environment Club, Dana shared impactful examples of campus-driven sustainability efforts, including a tree planting campaign aligned with COP16 and support for international climate conferences. Her voice and leadership exemplify UDST’s commitment to empowering students as changemakers and preparing them to drive meaningful environmental progress. We commend Dana for her inspiring contribution and her role in representing our university and Qatar’s youth on this important platform.
Research Team Showcases Climate Change Study in Germany

A team from the Environmental Health & Safety Department at UDST presented their research at the Keystone Symposia Conference on Climate Change & Infectious Disease Threats 2025, held from June 23 to 26 at Herrenhausen Palace in Hannover, Germany. The study, Climate Change Impact on Fungal Growth and Mycotoxin Production in Dried Produce and Its Effect on Food Security, was accepted for presentation as part of a UREP funded project. Representing UDST, Norr Hassan, Senior Lecturer and Research Mentor, and Aya Aljaja, Environmental Health student, attended the event and shared the team’s findings. Their presentation received strong feedback from international experts and opened doors for future collaboration. They also attended high-level sessions on climate determinants of public health risks, climate change and infectious diseases, and the role of AI and data science in addressing global health challenges.
MECC concludes training programme for UDST students

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), through its Department of Environmental Assessment and Permits, organized a nine-week field training pro gram for students from the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) from April 27 to June 26, 2025.
The program aimed to bridge academic learning with practical environmental experience, offering students exposure to the Ministry’s structure, environmental departments, and the challenges faced in environmental preservation. Students participated in workshops, field visits, and meetings with officials and environmental sector professionals, including visits to specialized laboratories and recycling companies.
This initiative reflects MECC’s and UDST’s shared commitment to building national capacity in environmental science and technology, enhancing students’ employability, and contributing to Qatar’s sustainable development through practical learning experiences.
Organizing Mini Symposium on Green Shipping and Maritime Decarbonization

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted a Mini-Symposium on “Green Shipping – Shipping Decarbonization,” demonstrating its commitment to advancing applied research and education in the maritime and sustainable energy sectors.
The event gathered international experts, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss global efforts in reducing carbon emissions within the shipping industry. Key sessions addressed maritime decarbonization regulations, innovative fuel and propulsion technologies, and energy efficiency strategies for marine operations.
The symposium also highlighted UDST-led research projects that offer practical solutions for sustainable maritime development. A panel discussion explored future trends and collaboration opportunities between UDST and maritime stakeholders. The event concluded with a tour of UDST’s marine simulation facilities, reinforcing the university’s role in shaping environmentally responsible maritime practices through applied education and research.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) served as a Golden Sponsor of the Corporate Environmental Sustainability: Reports and Achievements Conference and Book Launch, an event held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. The conference represented a key national effort to enhance transparency, accountability, and environmental responsibility across Qatar’s private sector.
During the event, Dr. Vladimir Brusic, UDST’s Vice President for Applied Research and Graduate Studies, participated as a panelist in the opening session, contributing expert insights on emerging sustainability trends and the evolving role of academia in driving corporate environmental transformation. The event also celebrated the launch of a landmark book highlighting the achievements of Qatari companies in emissions reduction, resource efficiency, and sustainable operations.
The Al-Attiyah Foundation and UDST Unite for Development of Future Energy and Sustainability Leaders

The Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development and the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster leadership in energy, sustainability, and climate change. This partnership aims to enhance research, education, and dialogue in these fields, contributing to Qatar National Vision 2030. H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to nurture Qatar’s youth and future leaders. Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, praised the partnership, highlighting its potential to facilitate knowledge exchange and support initiatives that align with Qatar’s sustainability goals. This MoU will serve as a platform for joint research, studies, and the sharing of expertise, strengthening both organizations’ commitment to a sustainable future.
Ministry honors winners of ‘Ozone Shield of Blue Planet’ to mark World Ozone Day

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) observed the World Ozone Day, which falls on September 16 each year, under the slogan ‘Advancing climate action’.
The event held on the occasion witnessed the honoring of the students who won the ‘Ozone Shield of the Blue Planet’ competition, which was organized by the MoECC, in cooperation with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The competition aimed to raise awareness among school students about the social responsibility of preserving the ozone layer by designing videos and publications that reflect their understanding and vision of environmental solutions related to protecting the ozone layer.
