Program Description

The Master of Science in Midwifery provides a professional pathway for Registered Nurses who wish to transition into the midwifery profession and meet local and international requirements for licensure as a Registered Midwife. This clinically focused Master’s program responds to the growing demand for highly skilled midwives who can practice autonomously while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The program is informed by international evidence aligning midwifery-led care with improved outcomes for women and newborns.

The program recognizes your prior education and professional experience, enabling you to build midwifery knowledge and skills within an accelerated program that balances academic study with practical, professional learning. Throughout the program, you develop in-depth knowledge, psychomotor competence, and professional judgement. You engage in experiential learning through state-of-the-art simulation facilities, virtual and pre-programmed clinical scenarios, and supervised clinical experiences that integrate theory with real-world practice. Learning emphasizes family- and woman-centered care, clinical decision-making, reflective practice, and professional conduct, preparing you to manage both uncomplicated and complex situations across the midwifery continuum.

The program is aligned with international midwifery education standards and professional competency frameworks, supporting your eligibility for licensure as a Registered Midwife and professional recognition. This alignment ensures the program meets regulatory requirements, maintains strong professional credibility, and prepares you to respond effectively to contemporary workforce and service needs at local, national, and global levels.

Program Duration:

Two years

Admission Requirements:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent undergraduate degree from an accredited higher education institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  1. The required score on the University English Placement Test or a passing score from another approved internationally recognized English language test, as validated by the Admissions & Registration Directorate; OR
  2. A valid (within two years) IELTS Academic Test Report Form with an overall band of 6.0 with no individual band score (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) below 6.0; OR
  3. A valid (within two years) TOEFL iBT score of 72 and minimum scores of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking, and 17 in writing.
  1. Academic transcripts related to the undergraduate degree presented upon application; AND
  2. Eligibility for licensure as a Registered General Nurse through the Qatar Ministry of Public Health; OR Licensure as a Registered General Nurse or equivalent scope of practice through another recognized licensing body; AND
  3. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview with the Admissions Committee.
  1. Documented proof of completed immunizations and diagnostic tests as identified in the Student Immunization Form.
  2. Documented proof of current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers Level 3 certification at the time of enrolment or within one month of commencement of the program.
  3. Students are responsible to maintain current immunizations and BLS certification throughout the duration of the program. These requirements may change during the program as determined by the Qatar Ministry of Public Health and clinical partners hosting student placements.

Graduate Future Pathways:

Graduates of the Master of Science in Midwifery may choose to continue their studies and pursue a Doctorate degree in their area of specialization.  Those who wish to expand their role in clinical practice may complete additional post-graduate education to qualify for licensing as a Clinical Midwife Specialist.

The Master of Science in Midwifery (M.Sc. Mw) is an applied degree with learning outcomes closely linked to the labor market.  A range of career opportunities within the Midwifery profession currently exist:
