About the Testing Centre
In January 2007, the University of Doha (UDST) established the UDST Testing Centre.
The Testing Centre was designed to address the testing needs of UDST in the areas of entrance, placement, and exit testing for its regular programs, as well as for Corporate Services. It also serves the larger community as an approved center for the administration of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, in addition to providing proctoring services for institutions outside Qatar.
The Testing Centre is located on the second floor of the Administration Building (Building 3). There are five test rooms, three of which have computer labs, eight oral interview rooms, administrative offices, a reception and two waiting areas for clients.
All assessments delivered through the Testing Centre are secure exams. This means there are strict guidelines and procedures in place to protect the security and integrity of tests and to ensure all candidates receive fair and equal treatment. For the standards and practices the Testing Centre strives to attain, please see Principles of Good Practice for ALTE Examinations at www.alte.org.
Placement Test Requirements
As part of the application process, booking UDST placement tests is required.
However, applicants may be exempt from taking the test if they meet certain criteria:
Undergraduate
- Internationally recognised test scores that meet admissions requirements e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT.
- UDST placement test scores from the past two years that meet admissions requirements.
Graduate
- Internationally recognised English language test scores that meet admissions requirements e.g. IELTS, TOEFL.
- UDST English placement test scores from the past two years that meet admissions requirements.
- A math placement test is not required for graduate programs.
Academic English Placement
The Academic English Placement test (AEP) is an online adaptive test designed to assess an applicant's English language ability.
The test results are used to place applicants in classes at UDST. Applicants requiring additional language support depending on eligibility and availability may be eligible to take English language classes at UDST to ensure future success in their program of study.
Preparing for the Test
The format of the Academic English Placement Test, is available here.
Academic Math Placement
The Academic Math Placement (AMP) is a test that measures an applicant's current mathematical skills. The results help to advise applicants on the appropriate mathematics course in which to enroll in order to complete the mathematics requirement for a particular program of study. At UDST, there are two parts to the AMP: AMP 1 and AMP 2. AMP 1 determines an applicant's math admission score to the university. AMP 2 determines whether or not a applicant can be exempted from undergraduate math courses.
Academic Math Placement 1 (AMP 1)
AMP 1 is a test of basic mathematics skills to measure an applicant's proficiency in specific areas of high school math. All applicants applying to UDST must register for AMP 1. Applicants can only be exempt from writing AMP 1 if they have advanced standing for credit earned in previous studies based on an acceptable score to UDST.
Preparing for the Test
The study guide for the Academic Math Placement test is available here.
The internet is also a great source of practice problems.
Test Details
AMP 1 is a computer-based test consisting of 60 multiple-choice questions. The time limit is two hours. Applicants must arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled test time with an original, valid passport or national ID card. No photocopies are accepted. Without proper ID, the test cannot be written. The UDST Testing Centre provides all test materials including a calculator (Casio fx- 991ES PLUS), formula sheet, and writing materials. All personal items must remain outside the test room. Test results are emailed within five business days after the test date.
Special accommodations are available for those with special needs. It is an applicant's responsibility to self-identify their needs and provide valid documentation at the time of application. A university counsellor reviews the documentation to determine what testing accommodations can be provided. Failure to notify UDST of the need for testing accommodation does not permit a re-test.

| Low* | Preparatory Mathematics |
| Pass | MATH1010 or MATH1070 |
| High Pass | Register for AMP Part 2 |
*Applicants who receive a score of low may register for and attempt AMP 1 again after thirty (30) days. A 300 QAR fee applies.
Academic Math Placement 2 (AMP 2)
AMP 2 is a test of advanced skills in mathematics to measure a student’s proficiency in areas of advanced algebra and functions, analytical trigonometry, and other precalculus topics. Only students with a high pass score on AMP 1 are eligible to write AMP 2.
