Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) concluded its 2025 graduation ceremonies at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Over three days, the university celebrated 1,166 graduates across its four colleges—Business, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering and Technology, and Health Sciences. 


The event recognized 32 top-performing students, including those with a perfect GPA of 4.0 and recipients of the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, presented by H.E. Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, Minister of Education and Higher Education. 


In his remarks, Vice President of Academics Dr. Rachid Benlamri commended graduates for their knowledge, hands-on experience, and readiness for a rapidly evolving digital world. He encouraged them to lead with innovation, uphold values, and contribute positively to their communities. Valedictorians Hafsa Hassan Diriye and Baraa Suleiman delivered inspiring messages about resilience, unity, and transforming challenges into opportunities. 


The ceremonies highlighted UDST’s continued focus on applied education, innovation, and preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

UDST students demonstrate skills to step into workforce

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted Skills Day 2025, engaging over 700 students in more than 40 competitions and challenges that tested their creativity, innovation, and technical expertise across diverse disciplines, including Engineering, Health Sciences, IT, Business, and General Education. The event emphasized applied learning, teamwork, and problem-solving, aligning with UDST’s mission to prepare students for real-world challenges. 


Highlights included competitions such as the Cybersecurity Skills Contest, Solar Car Challenge, and Autonomous Vehicle Simulation Cloud Challenge, which showcased students’ innovation and technical capabilities. A Shell NXplorers workshop on “Innovating for a Sustainable Future” further enriched the event, training participants in systems thinking and sustainability-driven innovation. 


UDST President Dr. Salem Al Naemi praised the event as a testament to the university’s focus on practical education and industry alignment, ensuring that students graduate with the skills, creativity, and confidence to succeed in a dynamic job market. 

UDST Secures ABET Accreditation for Two Engineering Technology Diploma Programs

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) announced that its Diploma in Chemical and Processing Engineering Technology and Diploma in Telecommunications and Network Engineering Technology have been officially accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET. This prestigious recognition confirms that UDST’s engineering technology programs meet international quality standards, enhancing graduate employability and professional recognition. 


UDST President Dr. Salem Al Naemi emphasized that the accreditation reflects the university’s commitment to continuous improvement, applied excellence, and industry alignment, ensuring students gain the skills and credentials to succeed globally. This milestone strengthens UDST’s role as a leader in applied education and workforce development. 

UDST hosts international workshop on 3D printing for applied technologies

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted the 3rd International Workshop on 3D Printing for Applied Technologies, a two-day event showcasing the latest advancements in additive manufacturing. The workshop featured knowledge exchange, hands-on training, and discussions on innovative topics such as elastomer, ceramic, and metal 3D printing, hybrid manufacturing techniques, and applications in decarbonization and orthopedic implants. The event aimed to raise awareness, foster industry collaboration, support start-ups, and position Qatar as a regional leader in digital manufacturing. UDST emphasized the workshop’s role in advancing applied technologies, strengthening industry-academia links, and contributing to Qatar National Vision 2030.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) celebrates the success of its bachelor’s in data science and Artificial Intelligence (BSc DSAI) programme, launched in 2021, with over two cohorts now graduated and contributing to the field. Building on this achievement, UDST has launched the Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MSc DSAI) and the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Cybersecurity (MSc AICC). These advanced programmes offer specialised training in AI, data privacy, cognitive computing, and innovation, preparing graduates to lead in a rapidly evolving digital era. UDST continues to emphasize applied learning through hands-on experience, industry placements, and capstone projects, reinforcing its role in advancing Qatar’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy and aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The event emphasizes the region’s commitment to nurturing collaboration among higher education institutions. The meeting served as a platform for universities to share best practices and strategies to address key challenges in the education sector. English Success Zone Hosts Second Meet and Mingle Event

Continuing its initiative, the English Success Zone (ESZ) hosted its second Meet and Mingle event. The event was warmly received by students and staff, serving as an opportunity to reintroduce the ESZ’s comprehensive English language support services while fostering a sense of community among learners. Attendees participated in an interactive quiz that highlighted the diverse resources offered by the ESZ, including writing workshops, group tutoring sessions, and IELTS preparation support. The engaging format encouraged active participation and reinforced the ESZ’s commitment to empowering learners in their academic journeys.

First University in the Region to Acquire Keenious, an AI-based Research Recommendation Tool

UDST is proud to be the first university in the region to introduce Keenious, an AI-based research recommendation tool, through its Library Services Directorate. This innovative tool will be available to students, faculty, and staff, offering personalized research recommendations. In today’s rapidly advancing AI landscape, it is vital to provide access to reliable, ethical tools that enhance academic research. Unlike other popular tools, Keenious does not generate content or fabricate citations but instead suggests existing, relevant research materials. By utilizing AI, Keenious analyzes documents, understands their content, and compares them with millions of scientific publications, making it easier for users to find valuable resources. With its advanced filtering options and powerful search capabilities, Keenious helps users discover new insights and stay ahead in their research endeavors.

At the Sea trade Maritime Qatar Conference and Exhibition, industry leaders discussed strategies to strengthen Qatar’s maritime sector by investing in local talent development. Dr. Salem Al Naemi, President of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), emphasized the university’s vital role in upskilling and reskilling the workforce to meet maritime and logistics industry demands. UDST has introduced new majors in marine engineering, port management, and supply chain logistics, along with STEM education initiatives to engage students in science and technology fields. The university’s Marine Centre also supports collaboration with the industry and promotes women’s participation in maritime roles, contributing to Qatar’s long-term sustainability goals under Qatar National Vision 2030.

UDST is proud to announce that two of its students, Abdulla Al Dossari and Mohammed Al-Naama, played pivotal roles in their teams’ success at the recent GCC Cybersecurity Conference’s Capture the Flag (CTF) competition. This event challenged participants with real-world cybersecurity scenarios, testing their problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and technical expertise. The competition brought together top students from across the GCC, with each country selecting six students to form diverse teams, each comprising one student from each GCC nation. Representing Qatar, Abdulla and Mohammed were instrumental in their teams securing first and second places, respectively. Their outstanding contributions not only highlight their individual talents but also the quality of education and training provided by UDST in the field of cybersecurity.

UDST proudly announces its recognition at the 2025 CYSEC Qatar event, where the university was honored with the “Cybersecurity Educator of the Year” award. The latter highlights UDST’s significant contributions to advancing cybersecurity education and its role in shaping the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. UDST also had the opportunity to chair a panel discussion and engage with Google, Cisco, Kaspersky, and F5, exploring innovations and trends in the cybersecurity field. CYSEC Qatar is an annual event that brings together more than 200 delegates from both the public and private sectors to collaborate on safeguarding Qatar’s digital infrastructure. The CYSEC Awards, among 13 categories, recognizes exceptional contributions to cybersecurity, with UDST being the sole academic institution honored this year for its outstanding educational programs in the field. 

Healthcare Management Students Gain Hands-On Experience at Itqan and HMC

Healthcare Management Department at the College of Business at UDST, organized immersive field trips to the Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center, providing students with firsthand exposure to advanced healthcare technologies and simulation-based learning. As part of the Healthcare Informatics course, students engaged with cutting-edge medical equipment and innovative healthcare practices. Itqan, recently accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, offered a world-class environment where participants developed critical skills in a high-tech, simulated setting. By integrating hands-on training with theoretical learning, the initiative deepened students’ understanding of healthcare innovation and its applications. These field trips not only broadened their technical knowledge but also encouraged them to pursue careers in healthcare technology and management. 

Students Collaborate on Mobile App Projects for Ministry of Education and Higher Education Competition

UDST students recently partnered with Khadejah Bint Khuwailid and Al-Qadisiyah schools to develop three innovative mobile app projects for a competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The collaboration provided students with the opportunity to apply their technical expertise to real-world challenges. The projects included, an app designed to prevent teenagers and unauthorized individuals from driving, a machine learning-powered app aimed at helping elementary school students improve their pronunciation and overcome stuttering in Arabic an a QR code-based app for tracking students who have safely evacuated during emergencies or after leaving school.  Through this collaboration, UDST students gained hands on experience in app development, while also addressing critical issues in education, safety, and technology. This initiative reflects UDST’s commitment to providing students with practical learning experiences that prepare them to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

A highlight of the program was the session titled “Career Journey for Female Engineers in Oil and Gas,” where accomplished female professionals from Shell shared their personal stories, challenges, and achievements in the energy sector. The session inspired meaningful conversations and motivated UDST’s female engineering students to pursue their aspirations with greater confidence. The initiative also featured two technical workshops on Process Safety, highlighting its importance in industrial operations. Students gained practical insights into safety protocols and risk management through case studies and discussions. SAS, UDST empower future innovators at Forecasting Hackathon

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), in collaboration with SAS, hosted a three-day Forecasting Hackathon that empowered students to address real-world challenges using advanced data analytics and machine learning. The competition brought together bright young minds who explored critical themes such as renewable energy, sustainability, workforce, logistics, and banking and finance (BFSI). Teams applied forecasting and analytical tools to propose innovative solutions for regional and global challenges, bridging theory with practice. 


The event celebrated exceptional innovation, with Team “pip install”—an all-women team—winning first place for their project “Data-driven Platform to Make Informed, Future-Ready Career Decisions.” Other notable projects included “AI Powered Solar Prediction” by Team “SolarIntel” and “Transit Traffic Dynamics: A Comparative Study of UAE Airports” by Team “HackaForecast.” The hackathon fostered collaboration, creativity, and data-driven problem-solving, showcasing how applied learning and innovation can address sustainability and workforce challenges in the region. 

Launching University Skills Summer Program to Support First-Year Student Success

UDST has introduced the University Skills Summer Program, a student-centered initiative designed to support the transition of first-year students into university life. The non-credit program offers participants early exposure to the academic skills, mindset, and expectations required to thrive at the university level. The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) proudly represented Qatar at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Through its participation in The State of Qatar Pavilion, UDST showcased the nation’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and education, blending tradition and modernity in a globally engaging way. UDST’s exhibit, inspired by the Qatari dhow boat, symbolized how Qatar’s maritime heritage informs its technological evolution. Interactive displays illustrated the fusion of heritage, engineering, and sustainable design, demonstrating how education serves as a foundation for building future societies. Complementing the exhibit, UDST faculty led live STEM and innovation workshops such as “Designing Future Societies Through Education and Innovation” and “Food Security and Sustainable Agritech.” These sessions provided hands-on learning experiences and engaged international audiences in discussions about education’s role in addressing global sustainability challenges.

QNBFS collaborates with UDST to provide training on brokerage services

UDST joined 15 prominent national institutions in showcasing Qatar’s growing reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and applied education. NCSA Professorship Chair at UDST

The University signed an agreement with the National Cyber Security Agency to establish the NCSA Professorship Chair in Cybersecurity at UDST’s College of Computing and Information Technology. The strategic initiative reflected both institutions’ commitment to advancing cybersecurity education, research, and innovation in Qatar. Through the Professorship Chair, UDST will host an internationally recognized scholar in cybersecurity who contributed to teaching, applied research, and community outreach. The Chair will also support joint projects, training, consultation, and the development of national cybersecurity standards and guidelines in collaboration with NCSA. The selection process is overseen by a joint committee comprising representatives from UDST, NCSA, and a rotating member from Qatar’s key industries such as oil and gas, healthcare, finance, or aviation. This ensures that the Chair’s work remains closely aligned with Qatar’s national priorities and the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. 

UDST and Huawei Jointly Launch State-of-the-Art AI ICT Academy Lab

In collaboration with Huawei, UDST proudly launched the AI ICT Academy Lab on February 15, 2024, marking a significant advancement in Qatar’s educational landscape. The inauguration was attended by key government officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and other stakeholders, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing AI capabilities in Qatar. The AI ICT Academy Lab aims to bridge the AI powered digital divide and upskill students to drive innovation and support Qatar’s digital future. Aligned with Qatar’s National AI Strategy, the lab focuses on six pillars: education, data access, employment, business, research, and ethics. The opening ceremony featured an AI Avatar, symbolizing the intersection of technology and education, showcasing the transformative potential of AI in revolutionizing learning and empowering the next generation of digital ambassadors.

The event emphasized collaboration, allowing students to work alongside peers and faculty, fostering teamwork essential for future success in an interconnected professional world. Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, UDST President, highlighted the event’s importance, stating that it showcased the students’ preparedness to apply their knowledge to drive real-world change. He also noted that UDST aligns its programs with evolving industry needs to ensure students are ready to excel in their chosen fields.
