Overview
The Applied Education Department is responsible for undergraduate and graduate academic programs in Teaching STEM, and STEM and TVET Education, to prepare future educators to deliver interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in diverse learning environments. Aligned with international standards and Qatar’s National Vision 2030, the programs foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Through an integrative curriculum blending theoretical knowledge and hands-on teaching experiences, graduates emerge ready to lead STEM initiatives, implement innovative pedagogies, design and implement forward-thinking STEM and TVET curricula that address diverse educational needs, and inspire the next generation of learners.
The Applied Education Department is grounded in a coherent philosophy of applied, research-informed, and practice-centered teacher education. We view teaching as a professional practice requiring judgment, adaptability, and collaboration, guided by the STEM: Integrated Teaching Framework. This framework positions learning as interdisciplinary, rooted in authentic problems, and responsive to the realities of schools, communities, and the knowledge society.
This philosophy is implemented through a structured portfolio of programs that distinguish pre-service and in-service teacher education while sharing a common conceptual core.
- The Bachelor of Science in Teaching STEM prepares future K–12 teachers with integrated STEM pedagogy, strong disciplinary foundations, and early, sustained practicum experiences.
- The Master of Science in Teaching STEM provides a graduate-level entry pathway for STEM graduates entering the teaching profession.
- The Master of Science in STEM Education and TVET supports practicing teachers, focusing on instructional leadership, curriculum and assessment design, applied research, and policy awareness, enabling influence at the classroom, school, and system levels.
Our internationally recognized faculty bring substantial K–12 teaching and leadership experience, with active research in integrated STEM education, mathematical modelling, STEAM, and teacher professional development. Across programs, we emphasize problem-based and project-based learning, inquiry, design processes, and professional judgment within Qatar’s multilingual and multicultural context.
We invite prospective students, school leaders, policymakers, and partners to inquire about our programs and collaboration opportunities.
