Qatar’s First STCW “Train the Simulator Trainer and Assessor” Course Successfully Completed at UDST

The Maritime Training and Simulation Center (MTSC) at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has successfully delivered Qatar’s first “Train the Simulator Trainer and Assessor” course, based on IMO Model Course 6.10.

Delivered over five days and 30 training hours, the course brought together maritime professionals for an intensive programme combining theoretical instruction and simulator-based training. The programme focused on developing the knowledge and instructional and assessment competencies required for the effective use of maritime simulators in STCW training and assessment, in line with the relevant IMO framework.

The successful delivery of the IMO 6.10 course also represents another important milestone in MTSC’s certification journey. Following a successful Bureau Veritas (BV) audit, MTSC obtained the related Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for Training Courses Conducted by an Approved Maritime Training Institute, representing the fourth Bureau Veritas Certificate of Compliance achieved by MTSC.

This latest certification is particularly significant, as the Bureau Veritas Certificate of Compliance for the IMO 6.10 course is held by a very limited number of STCW maritime training and simulation centers worldwide, placing MTSC among a select group of centers internationally holding this specific certification.

Beyond the certification milestone, the course provided an important platform for maritime professionals to exchange knowledge, share industry experience and best practices, and further strengthen competencies in simulator-based maritime education, training, and assessment.
