A Warm Welcome to Students Coming from Gaza

JANUARY 2024

UDST hosted a welcoming ceremony for Palestinian students from Al-Fakhoora, a program of the Education Above All Foundation, following the disruption of their academic pursuits due to the Gaza crisis. Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, Mr. Fahad Al-Sulaiti, CEO of Education Above All, and Dr. Sheikh Khaled Al-Thani, Director General of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, expressed their support for the students. The Qatari and Palestinian Clubs played a vital role in extending a warm reception, wishing the students success in their academic journey. The students will join UDST’s diverse programs in engineering, IT, business, and health sciences, with the aim of empowering them for future professional success.

Globalization and Palestine: Exploring Challenges and Opportunities

A panel discussion at UDST, part of the “Globalization and the Environment” course, explored the impact of globalization on the Palestinian cause. Moderated by UDST student Abdulrahman Al-Ishaq, the dialogue featured prominent speakers who examined the intersection of globalization and the Palestinian issue. Abdulaziz Al-Ishaq discussed Qatar’s stance on supporting Palestinian rights, while Dima Khatib highlighted digital media’s role in shaping global perceptions. Dr. Tarek Hamoud explored the Palestinian diaspora’s influence in Europe, and Dr. Nawaf Al Tamimi analyzed Israeli lobbying activities from a globalization perspective. The second part of the discussion focused on the Gaza conflict, with a particular focus on traditional media and the rise of citizen journalism as an alternative. Students actively engaged in the conversation, raising insightful questions about media effectiveness and the role of citizen journalism, enriching the overall learning experience.
