CCIT

Research Methodology for Thesis Writing

This workshop guides postgraduate students through the essential stages of designing a strong and defensible research methodology. It covers how to develop a clear research question, select appropriate research paradigms and methods, and ensure alignment between research design, data collection, and analysis. Students will gain practical insights into writing a coherent methodology chapter, addressing ethical considerations, and meeting examiner expectations. By the end of the workshop, students will be equipped to justify their methodological choices and strengthen the overall quality of their thesis.

Counselling Session

Building from an Idea to Thesis Proposal

This is a practical workshop designed to guide Master’s students through the process of transforming an initial research idea into a focused, feasible, and ethics-ready thesis proposal. Students will learn how to define a researchable problem, identify and justify a meaningful gap in the literature, formulate strong research questions, and align these with an appropriate methodology. The session will also highlight key ethical and IRB considerations that should be integrated into the research design from the outset, including recruitment, consent, risk, confidentiality, and data management.

How to Write the Perfect Literature Review

This guide equips Master’s students with a systematic approach to writing a high-impact literature review. It emphasizes that a literature review is not merely a summary of sources, but the foundation of a thesis that demonstrates academic expertise and justifies the research focus. By the end of the guide, students gain a clear roadmap for transforming a large body of literature into a coherent and well-structured academic argument.

Reading and Writing Critically

This workshop supports Master’s students in developing the analytical depth and intellectual independence required at graduate level. It moves beyond summary to focus on interrogating arguments, evaluating evidence, identifying assumptions, and engaging with academic debates. Students will learn how to construct strong thesis statements, integrate sources critically, and position their voice within scholarly conversations. By strengthening both reading and writing skills, the workshop provides practical strategies to help students produce clear, evidence-based, and critically engaged academic work.
