Scholarship and Financial Aid Initiatives at UDST

JANUARY 2025

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) offers a wide range of scholarships and financial aid programs designed to promote academic excellence, equal opportunity, and access to higher education for students from diverse backgrounds. These include the Graduate Sponsorship Research Award (GSRA), which enables graduates to transform their bachelor’s capstone projects into pathways for advanced research and graduate success, offering full tuition coverage and additional financial support for local and international studies. The Amiri Scholarship, UDST’s most prestigious award, reflects the vision of H.H. the Amir to encourage educational excellence and innovation, supporting both local and international students pursuing applied fields of study. The Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation Scholarship provides crucial financial assistance to Bachelor’s degree students—both Qatari and non-Qatari—helping reduce economic barriers and promote inclusivity. Similarly, the Education Above All Foundation’s Dynamic Futures Qatar (DFQ) Scholarship, offered through the Al Fakhoora program, supports expatriate youth residing in Qatar in accessing quality higher education. Additionally, the Varsity Sports Scholarship helps talented student-athletes continue their academic journey without being constrained by financial limitations, reinforcing UDST’s commitment to holistic student development.

In alignment with Qatar’s national priorities, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) has recently included UDST’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Teaching STEM and TVET under the national “Tomouh” scholarship track. Announced in April 2025, this initiative reflects Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) and emphasizes strengthening national capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through this collaboration, UDST is advancing its mission to deliver applied, industry-relevant education while nurturing a skilled teaching workforce that supports innovation, sustainability, and the development of a knowledge-based economy.

Smart Islanded and Sustainable Street Lights: Transforming Transportation Lighting in Qatar (QRDI Project)

SEPTEMBER 2025

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) was awarded the Displaced Arab Researchers (DAR) research category, launched by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI) to support scientists from conflict-affected regions such as Palestine, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. This initiative enables displaced researchers to continue their scientific work in collaboration with Qatari universities, strengthening regional research capacity and fostering sustainable development.
Under this category, UDST is conducting a project titled “Renewable Autonomous Street Lighting System”, which aims to develop a sustainable, self-sufficient street lighting network powered by innovative solar photovoltaic panels, optimized battery storage, and AI-based load management. The project aligns with Qatar’s vision for renewable energy and smart infrastructure, offering scalable, low-maintenance lighting solutions suitable for regions facing power shortages, including potential implementation in Yemen and Palestine.

UDST Students Organize Palestine Fundraisers Amid Global Crisis

JANUARY 2024

In response to the crisis in Palestine, UDST students showcased remarkable initiative by organizing fundraisers that raised 48,638 Qatari Riyals. Within a day, a dedicated group of volunteers mobilized to support the effort, which combined fundraising with education, providing materials to raise awareness about Palestine’s culture and the current situation. The event saw overwhelming support from the UDST community, with volunteers contributing homemade food, snacks, and coffee to foster engagement. The success of the fundraiser also led to the formation of an official Palestinian Club at the university, which plans to host more events in the future. This initiative reflects the students’ global awareness, resilience, and commitment to making a difference. UDST extends gratitude to everyone who supported this cause. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Palestine and the Palestinian community in Qatar.
